The Future of the Industry
On Wednesday, Oliver G. Gilbert III, chairman of the Board of County Commissioners in Miami-Dade County, Florida, announced plans to build a new career training facility for people interested in working in the aviation business. He gave Captain Barrington Irving of The Flying Classroom, a programme that teaches STEM subjects to students of all ages via airplane, a check for $100,000.

To honor its visionary namesake and pioneer in aviation, the school is called the Barrington Irving Technical Training School. Chairman Gilbert made the following remarks regarding the new facility:
“I am excited to bring what will be a major hub for innovation to the Miami Opa-locka Executive Airport. individuals who will come for certification will be educated by the best, and they will have access to top-of-the line resources. This center will transform lives. It will unlock curiosity in our youth to imagine what’s possible by studying fields from a technical perspective, and for adults, it will provide a new start in a viable career that can increase their livelihood. The best part is, we are getting started now.”

Captain Barrington Irving is a Jamaican-American aviator whose impressive resume should introduce him to everyone unaware of him. The 23-year-old accomplished a solo circumnavigation of the globe in a Columbia 400 in 2007, setting a new record for the youngest person to do it. As an added feat, he completed the first African-African circumnavigation of the globe.
The record for the youngest person to complete a round of the globe has been 17 years old since 2007, when Mack Rutherford set it with his daring voyage the year before. Since his historic flight in 2007, Irving has been actively involved in aviation education through several collaborations and training centres, most of which are based in his home state of Florida.
He has established himself as a leader in the aviation education field through his work with The Flying Classroom, Bombardier Academy, and Experience Aviation. Inviting people of all ages and walks of life into the profession is one of his primary goals, and he plans to use his experience and credentials to do just that. Captain Irving had this to say about the newly named facility:
