Lee County Celebrates the 4th Anniversary of the Horrific Ef-4 Tornado

On Friday, it will have been four years since a devastating EF-4 tornado ripped through Lee County, killing 23 people and injuring 90 more.

On that day, March 3, 2019, multiple tornadoes struck the state, including a powerful EF-4 that ravaged southern Lee County before advancing into Georgia.

During that day, terrible weather affected Alabama and other states. Forty-one tornadoes touched down in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina, with a dozen occurring in Alabama alone. To date, the Beauregard-Smiths Station tornado has been the only fatal one.

In the center of the Beauregard neighborhood, on the grounds of Providence Church, is a permanent memorial honoring all 23 fatalities. It also recognizes those who helped in the immediate aftermath of the storms, including emergency personnel and volunteers.

This Friday, 3 March 2023, at 7 p.m., Providence Church will host a memorial service for the public.
