A 32-year-old Fountain City man died in a car accident in Randolph County on 2 March 2023 Thursday morning. The individual was identified as Ethan Allen Dement by the Randolph County Coroner’s Office.
The collision involving Dement’s Jeep and a semi-truck was reported at roughly 8:50 a.m. on U.S. 36 east of U.S. 27, according to the Randolph County Sheriff’s Department.
According to the initial inquiry, Dement was driving his Jeep westward when he attempted to pass a box truck and pulled into the path of the semi, which was traveling eastbound on U.S. 36.
Michael Kavanaugh, 60, of Birdseye, who was operating the truck, veered to the shoulder but could not avoid hitting the Jeep. Dement’s Jeep ended up in a ditch on the north side of the highway due to the incident, while the semi ended up on the opposite side.

At the scene, Dement was identified as deceased. Kavanaugh suffered no harm.
The Union City Police Department, the Lynn Police Department, the Lynn Fire Department, the Fountain City Fire Department, the Randolph County EMS, the Randolph County coroner, the Indiana State Police, and the Randolph County Sheriff’s Department were among the responding authorities.
The accident is still being looked into.
