On Sunday afternoon, a police officer was shot and killed, and a standoff ensued in a neighborhood near Dupo, Illinois. The incident occurred in the 400 block of McBride Avenue at approximately 1:15 p.m., according to a statement released by the Illinois State Police.
Where exactly the Dupo officer was shot is unknown. McBride could be a possible location. They suffered critical injuries and were sent to a hospital in St. Louis. A home in the area turned out to be where the slain person had been found dead.
A representative with ISP has stated that the suspect is “believed to be barricaded in another neighboring residence” on the 700 block of McBride. It was too unsafe for residents to drive home on Stolle Road, therefore police blocked them from doing so. For hours, police halted movement on the street.
Around 3:30 in the afternoon, a medical helicopter landed on McBride Avenue and stayed there. Waterloo, Fairview Heights, and Illinois State Police officers stationed themselves on Stolle and prevented the media from getting close to McBride.

Richard Jones, who lives in the same neighborhood as the shooting of the Dupo police officer, reported hearing sirens outside his house. When leaving the building, he felt “uncomfortable,” he said.

While waiting for police to arrive, a mother stood beside Stolle Road after receiving the devastating news that her son had been killed. Another spectator was pacing back and forth along the sidewalk. The man said, “He’s like a brother to me. I’m trying to get him out.” Neither one of them would give their names or agree to an interview on video.
